I would like my wedding to be a black tie event. How do I let my guests know on the invitation that it will be formal?
A lot of people make the mistake of saying “Black Tie Optional” on the invitation. What does “Black Tie Optional” mean? It means that you are inviting your guests with the option to wear whatever they want: black tie to khakis. The way to invite your guests to a black tie wedding is to let them know what they being invited to… If it is a black tie wedding, say it: “Black Tie.”
If you want to give your guests the option to either dress in black tie, or something more casual, then say “Black Tie Optional.”
Your guests don’t want to guess about what they are supposed to wear to your wedding. Tell your guests what to expect, they will appreciate it!
